Mouth yeast infection

It is a known fact that yeast infection generally occurs in the vaginal areas in women and in the genital parts of men. It is a little known fact that yeast infection can also happen in the mouth. This is known as thrush. This can affect men, women and even children.

While yeast is already present in or body and stays peacefully in harmony with other microorganisms the problem crops up when yeast increases in number and becomes more abundant than the other harmless microorganism that are present there. Yeast infection in the mouth can be very painful. This is caused when yeast multiplies in the mouth. The mouth infection is similar to the other infections caused by yeast.

People who are more prone to yeast infections include babies, denture users, people who are into antibiotics, diabetics, people who have a weak immune system and who are suffering from poor nutrition. Babies are much more prone to the infection than adults as their immune system is yet to be developed.

The baby can also catch on the infection from the mother. If the mother is suffering from a vaginal infection at the time of pregnancy and does not get it treated the baby is also infected. It is therefore required that the vaginal infection be cured in order to keep the baby safe from the infection.

Symptoms

There are many symptoms of yeast infection in the mouth.

The first sign is that there will be a number of white patches that can be seen in the mouth. These patches will begin bleeding when touched. The affected person may even feel a burning sensation in the affected regions. Some other symptoms include thick coating on the tongue, fissures under coating, difficulty in swallowing, lesions on the palate, tongue, and lips, foul breath and many more.

It is best to consult a doctor and know if it is yeast infection that you are suffering from. The doctor will conduct certain tests to know if you are suffering from an infection. You need to confirm the infection as there are a number of other conditions that also have similar symptoms. There are many treatments that are there for the infection but it is required that you know the cause before you start treatments. Mouth yeast infection is generally due to the presence of a fungus known as Candida Albicans.

Treatment

The condition is usually treated through over-the-counter medicines. The problem with the drug based medications is that the fungus becomes resistant to these. And as the medicines are aimed at stopping the symptoms of the diseases the root cause is not treated. This results in uncomfortable mouth infections that can get worse each time.

More and more people are now resorting to natural remedies to treat the disease. Home remedies such as using plain yogurt, garlic, and apple cider vinegar have been known to be very effective. These work effectively to rid the root cause of the disease and also do not lead to any side effects. There are a number of natural products that are available in the market and you can buy the ones that would suit you best.

If you are looking to cure the infection permanently it would do good to have a close look at your diet. Yeast is known to love the environment of moldy and yeasty breads, sugar as well as highly acidic foods. It is therefore best to avoid consumption of such food items.

One of the best ways to avoid thrush is to practice good oral hygiene. It is important that you brush your teeth twice daily and use mouthwash regularly too. This will help to rid your mouth of all the bacteria. It is also required that you floss regularly and visit your dentist at least twice a year. This will prevent the occurrence of the infection.

In most of the cases mouth infections can be treated easily. But when the infection takes a firmer grip it can cause serious problems. It is best to treat yeast as soon as possible as if left untreated it might affect the other parts of your body. It is advised that you consult your doctor at the earliest incase you spot any of the symptoms of the infection.
